After our first meeting with Sophie on the 25th of August, we knew we had to act quickly and efficiently within the short time window - the remainder of the Hockey season. This means our intervention can only last six weeks.
The resources we have chosen to utilise for the duration of this intervention are;
- The competitive state anxiety inventory
- The performance profile
- Personality test
- Multiple interviews with Sophie
- Psychological models and theories
- Sophie's coach and teammates
Sophie's hockey matches are played at a fairly high skill and competition level. She plays in an under 19, division 1 roster, against both club and school teams.
Other than once-a-week training and games, Sophie does not participant in any other health intervention, and has not in the past.
As we have said in earlier posts, Sophie struggles to refocus her attention during a game if she makes an error. We also found that Sophie is lacking in self-confidence and is concerned in others’ perceptions of her performance.
Therefore, our specific goal for this intervention is to increase Sophie's self-confidence and resilience, to therefore improve her overall performance in her hockey games. As well as this improvement, we hope to see what she learns translated into all aspects of her busy life.
